Summer Fun Run Series starts next week

PGRC Summer Race Series 2011- FREE!

When: Every Thursday, July 7-August 25, 7pm. Registration from 6:15-6:45 pm.

Where: Greenbelt Youth Center parking lot. Course is around Greenbelt Lake in Buddy Attick Park.

Distances: 1.75 miles OR 3 miles, starting at 7:00 pm

Kids Run (0.25 mile), starting at 6:50 pm

Who: Races are open to everyone so bring the kids, the whole family and bring your friends.

Awards: All PGRC club members who finish at least 4 races AND volunteer for at least one race will receive a participation award, and will also be eligible for the following series awards:

-Fastest male/female in open, masters (40+), and grandmasters (60+) categories (3 mile race only, no duplicate awards).

-Most improved male and female (1.75 mile and 3 mile races).

-Other “surprise awards” may be awarded at the end of the series.

Volunteers: Most volunteers will also be able to run. Email Elaine at to volunteer.

Cancellations: If thunder or lightening is detected within 30 minutes of the 7pm start time, the race will be cancelled.


MDRRCA Grand Prix Series

Congratulations to PGRCers, Amanda Hartmann (1st place), Laurie Fisher (1st place),  and Clare Imholtz (2nd place) for placing in their age groups in the 2010 MDRRCA Grand Prix Series

The MDRRCA Grand Prix Series offers runners an opportunity to compete against members of other area RRCA clubs in races throughout Maryland.  In order to qualify for awards, runners must finish at least 4 races in the series.

This year’s series has already begun with the Club Challenge.  Next up is PGRC’s Springburst, which offers a discount to all RRCA members (PGRC, MCRRC, HCS, AS, etc).

PGRC runs the Grapevine 8K

Great day for running at the Run thru the Grapevine 8K, where the PGRC masters coed team “PGRC No Whiners” took first place (well, only one team in the category, but we’ll take it!)– scoring a bottle of wine for each team member.  Team “PGRC Run Don’t Whine” placed 6th out of 9 teams in the more competitive open coed division.

Chestertown Classic Run

I just learned about a race held in Chestertown, Maryland, as part of their annual Chestertown Tea Party Festival in celebration of the Chestertown Tea Party of 1774. The race includes a 10 Mile Run and a 5K Run/Walk event.

It looks like there are a few other things happening that weekend, so go for the run and stay for the wine! Here’s a link to the Chestertown event:
